what to do if a pipe breaks

As we are all aware it is really cold outside. In a past post I have given some suggestions about how to reduce the risk of pipes freezing and breaking, but pipes still can freeze on you. So what do you do if a pipe breaks and water is spraying everywhere. The best thing to do is go straight to your main water shut off valve in your home and turn it off. (If you don;t know where this valve is you should locate it today, if you need help we are glad to assist you).  Once the water is shut off you can determine exactly where the break is. During this time you can be removing books or paper from the area the water is located and wipe off any leather or wood work that has water on it to avoid water staining.
